Clubs
Clubs meet every Thursday and are a great way of getting to know other students that interested in the same things you are!

Art Club Want to learn about visual fine art and be creative? In this club you will learn about famous artists, photography, and will even create small drawings and designs. Open to anyone who desires to be an artist!

Board Games and Cards This club is for students interested in learning the strategies and techniques of various board and card games. Members will learn various types of games and compete amongst each other using the techniques and strategies learned in the club.

Chess Club “Chess Club rules!” say former members of the club. If you like competition, enjoy a challenge, and want to improve your strategic thinking, Chess Club is for you. Everyone is welcome, from beginner to expert. Accept the challenge and have fun!

Clogging Club Learn basic clogging steps for beginners to intermediate levels. No tap shoes are required and advanced cloggers are welcome if you have a desire to help other students learn to clog. Clogging is a folk dance that originated in the 18th century in England. Today it is a combination of English and Irish step as well as American Appalachian clogging.

Disability Awareness Club This club is to familiarize all members with what having a disability is like and how people with disabilities can overcome great obstacles to be leaders in the community.

Drama Club (Cavalier Spotlight) Do you love being the center of attention? Do you crave the spotlight or dream of performing in a huge auditorium to a packed house? If so, then Cavalier Spotlight is for you! This performing arts club is open to any aspiring performer whether you are a vocalist, instrumentalist, actor, dancer, or anyone who just appreciates the arts. We will discuss performance preparation techniques, ways to battle stage fright, and upcoming events in the Spartanburg area. This club works in conjunction with the Muse Machine.

Family Tree Club Do you like mysteries and solving confusing puzzles? Come join us in the Family Tree Club to investigate your roots and unravel your origins.

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) For all students, not just athletes. Every club day and Thursday morning we will meet for food, music, fellowship, and fun! We will sing praise songs from our live praise band and have guest speakers talk to us about the love of our Savior Jesus Christ. Over spring break we will go on our annual beach trip to Myrtle Beach.

French Club This club is all about France! Speak the language, learn the customs, see the cities that make France and the French language so popular.

Freshman Academic Team Students with a high level of knowledge and the ability to communicate that knowledge in a timed situation may tryout for the Dorman Freshman Academic Team. FAT members have the opportunity to travel and compete against other academic teams in the southeast. The team will practice three-four times per week and several competitions will require overnight travel.

Girls, Inc. Girls, Inc. is designed to help meet the growing needs of young women. The club will cater to social and personal concerns that today’s teenage girls face. There will be a variety of forum discussions and activities ranging from peer pressure to self-defense.

GRACE Club (Giving Respect And Caring for Everyone) Students will talk about diverse cultures and differences in people. They will learn how to work together to develop respect. Tough issues about diversity will be discussed so students can learn strategies on how to cooperate with all types of people.

Hispanic Cultural Awareness Club The mission of the Hispanic Cultural Awareness Club is to enrich the variety of cultural aspects of the Hispanic and Spanish worlds. Students in this club will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied. This organization will help to promote hands on learning of the Hispanic culture through a variety of resources such as food, music, dance, and guest speakers. Students will also be able to compare and contrast the foreign culture to their own. This club will help students gain a general knowledge and an understanding of other cultures of the Hispanic world through various live and enriching activities, by allowing students to use the language both within and beyond the classroom setting.

Improv Club Have you ever seen, “Whose Line Is It Anyway”? Do you think you can be funny on the spot given different scenarios and props? If so, the Improv Club is for you!

Jazz Band Club Jazz Band Club is designed to give band students the opportunity to come together and play some jazz tunes outside of the normal band rehearsal setting. Instrumentation includes saxophones, trombones/baritones, trumpets, rhythm section, piano, and some other specialty instruments as needed. This is not by audition, but by first come first served basis in order to allow for all interested students to participate. Students can be in Jazz Band club and not necessarily in the Performance Jazz Band.

Leadership Club JROTC is all about you! You are the whole point. It’s devoted to your growth, both as a student and as a person. All freshman cadets will have Leadership Education Training (LET 1) in class. This is where the Leadership Club begins, exactly where LET 1 ends. Our interest is to give you an opportunity to develop and improve yourself in ways schools don’t generally offer. The Leadership Club will focus on leadership skills (how to motivate others) and personal skills (how to study, take tests, interview for jobs). No JROTC cadet or Leadership Club member is under any obligation to join the military, but we do use military skills to teach self-discipline. The Leadership Club will train you for leadership by having you lead and not just by reading about it. Only JROTC cadets can apply for the Leadership Club.

Model Rocketry Club Build and fly Estes model rockets. Learn the basic components of rocket building and flying. Learn how to build an astrolabe to determine how high a rocket flew. Learn to measure the speed of a rocket flight and compete in a model rocket building contest.

Pen Pal Mentors Students in this club will correspond with students in 8th grade through letters. They will share with the 8th graders what the 9th grade campus is like and will act as “insiders” to give other perspectives. At the end of the school year, the 8th grade students will have the opportunity to meet and receive a tour of the 9th grade campus from the mentors. Students in this club need to have a “C+” or better overall average and cannot have been suspended during their 8th grade year.

Puzzlemania Do you love the thrill of figuring out a complicated puzzle? Do you want to know what a conundrum is? If this sounds like you, join us in the puzzle club. We will complete mathematical puzzles and physical and mechanical puzzles as well as common puzzles played daily in society. A different activity takes place each time we meet. Activities are designed to suit all abilities and interests and include all of the following: solving riddles, Sudoku puzzles, crossword puzzles, mystery trails, brain teasers; playing strategy games and finding your way through maddening mazes.

Quilt Club Learn who to design and make quilts, a hobby that is as much about the American culture as apple pie!

Running Club Learn how to train for a 5K, 10K, and even a marathon! In this club you will learn how to eat, drink, dress, and run.

Scrapbooking Club
This club is for students that like to take pictures and write in journals. Each meeting, we will discuss page layouts, journaling techniques, and picture cropping. One new page will be made during each club meeting. Students will be required to have supplies to complete their scrapbook.

Sports Rotisserie Club Do you follow sports? Do you like competing against other people in drafting, organizing, and tracking your player’s performance as if you were the team owner? If so, the Sports Rotisserie Club is for you. Students will draft a team of players and track their statistics over the course of the year in a competitive environment. Owners that have the skills it takes to understand talent and make the right managerial moves will be crowned the champion at the end of the year.

Step Team Think you have got the moves? The ground shakes when the Step Team takes to the stage! Learn all the moves and be a part of a performing team of steppers in this high energy, fast-paced club!

Technology Club Technology Club provides members an opportunity to develop technical ability with others who share this similar interest. Club members will use technical equipment in creative ways while they develop problem-solving skills. Working in teams, students will design and build working models such as mousetrap-powered distance cars or model rockets.

Teen Book Club Do you love to read young adult books? Do you love to discuss what you read but find you have no one who likes the same material you do? If so, you should join the Teen Book Club. We will be reading and discussing the novels that interest the young adult reader’s life. What would be better than finding another group of teens who not only like to read, but also want to share their thoughts like you do? For fantastic food, fun, and fiction (or not), sign-up for the Teen Book Club today!

Unsolved Mystery Club If you like C.S.I. and want to be a SUPER SLEUTH, come solve mysteries in this fun club. We will have mock C.S.I., “Who done it,” and brain teasers with many more crime scene investigation mysteries to quench your curiosity.

Weightlifting Club If you love to pump the iron and work out to get yourself in better shape, the Weightlifting Club is for you! Members learn the variety of techniques to safely build their physique.
Words and Music Club The Words and Music Club will provide an opportunity for students interested in songwriting and poetry to create, evaluate, and perform their original songs, music, and poetry. We will discuss what makes good songwriting and provide an arena for students to critique each other’s work as they share with the group. The club will examine many different genres of music and poetry and give the students a chance to explore each one.

Yoga Club This club introduces students to focused breathing and basic poses. Yoga is a great way to learn how to clear your mind and manage stress.

Young Life Club Young Life is action-packed fun with skits, entertainment, friends, and surprises. Come laugh, meet people, and hear what God has to say about life. Young Life is for everybody!
