
Dear Student:
Please read this letter carefully, then share it with your parent(s)/guardian(s) and ask them to sign the attached form indicating that you both have read this letter. If there are any questions, please ask for clarification right away.
Our goal is to help you learn as much as possible in this course. In this class, you will learn keyboarding and Computer Application Software (MSWORD, EXCEL, ACCESS and POWERPOINT). You will learn to work as a member of a team, and I especially hope you will learn how to be a life-long learner. In order for maximum progress to occur, rules and procedures are necessary. Your cooperation and active participation in the classroom is necessary. Below is information you need to know to make the class run smoothly.
Academic work details:
1. There are several components, which make up the interim and semester grades:
Grading Policy
Homework/Notebook checks - 10%
Tests 30%
Quizzes/Timed Writings - 20%
Production/daily sheet- 30%
Final Exam – 10%
*Midterm test is 5% of the midterm grade.
1. Final exam is 10 % of the class grade.
(Extra credit will be assigned at teacher’s discretion)
2. Bring a notebook (3-ring binder preferred), loose leaf paper, subject dividers, agenda book, 3X5 index cards, pens and pencils to class EVERY DAY. All students are responsible for having their own supplies.
3. Choose a classmate you can call for assignments and information when you are absent.
4. Make up tests must be taken within three days of your return to school from an absence. Zeroes will be assigned if tests are not made up within three days.
Proper classroom behavior is essential to an effective learning environment. All school rules apply in the classroom. Check your agenda for school rules. Remember three rules: 1. BE ON TIME. 2. BE PREPARED 3. BE RESPECTFUL
Discipline details:
1. Be on time and in assigned seat when the bell rings. (See tardy policy) No pencils sharpened after bell.
2. Pay attention and follow directions.
3. Unless instructed otherwise, you should be quiet and listen in class whether the teacher is talking or a classmate is addressing the group. No talking when someone else is talking. Raise your hand to be recognized before speaking.
3. We work from bell to bell. If you finish ahead of time, you may read (bring a book) or work on other assignments. THERE WILL BE NO SLEEPING IN CLASS.
4. NO DRINKING ALLOWED. Our lab is full of expensive equipment.
5. There will be many times when you will be asked to answer questions, discuss an idea, and work in-groups or pairs. Always participate willingly and with a positive attitude.
6. Do not leave your seat until teacher dismisses you. Observe, “Chair rule”.
7. NO INTERNET USE WITHOUT PERMISSION OF TEACHER and a signed Internet contract is on file for you.
8. Use restroom during class changes. Students will be released from class on an emergency basis, only.
9. Treat everyone with respect. No “put-downs” or slang words, which have a negative meaning, such as “shut up”; “stupid”, etc., are allowed.
CONSEQUENCES:
1. First offense – warning and parent contact
2. Second offense –lunch detention and parent contact
3. Third offense – Parent contact and thirty-minute detention, after school
4. Students who do not stay for detention will be referred to principal. Any additional offenses will be referred to principal. (All rules listed in agenda book are applicable in addition to the above.)
It is my aim to keep our classroom safe and an inviting place to learn. I enjoy teaching, and I hope you will find the information and skills I teach beneficial. Any time you have questions or need to discuss a problem, please see me to arrange a time we can meet. It is my desire that all ideas and opinions will be treated with respect so that you will feel free to share your thoughts with everyone in an appropriate way. We can have a great class if we create a positive learning atmosphere.

Students may have extra lab time in the homework center, before and after school, daily; use of B.U.G. passes during fifth block/CAVS or my computer lab in the mornings from 7:30 am until 8:00 am. Students will be able to make up missing assignments/tests, ask questions, or seek further explanation of a lesson.
